A Community of Successful African Business Women

Entrepreneurship is a lonely path. The AWEC Alumnae Network (AAN) ensures that our entrepreneurs don’t walk that path alone. After completing their program year, AWEC Fellows are immediately invited to join a private online community created exclusively for them.

The AAN is a network of over 1000 women entrepreneurs who have remained connected through a variety of projects largely initiated by the alumnae themselves and led by the AWEC Alumnae Board with support from AWEC.

  • AWEC & Alumnae-led Masterclasses on practical topics geared at continued growth post the program. This includes Business Clinics, Expert-led Webinars, Business Dialogues, etc

  • Executed thought Alumnae-driven peer to peer mentorships and the AWEC Though Leadership Initiative

  • Networking and partnership-building through virtual and in-person activities & meetups that have resulted in outcomes like cross border expansion, accountability systems, etc

  • Community-building activities that encourage alumnae to pay-it-forward to their employees, community and other women-owned businesses. A key initiative for this is the Community Champions Initiative (CCI).

some short description

Community Champions Initiative (CCI)

In six years, we’ve built an engaged and active community of 1,200 African women entrepreneurs who have experienced first-hand how valuable the AWEC experience has been to their businesses.  With a desire to increase the breadth of AWEC’s impact while still maintaining the depth of impact that serves as our unique value proposition, we realized that our alumnae network is the future of AWEC.

We doubled down on both the expertise within and the desire of our alumnae network to pay their AWEC experience forward, while utilizing their vast network across 53 countries in Africa. The goal is to impact 45,000 additional women by the end of 2027 through the initiative by training our alumnae to deliver AWEC-style trainings within their local communities.
